Deuteron and alpha sub-libraries of JENDL-5

Nakayama, Shinsuke; Iwamoto, Osamu; Sublet, J.-Ch.*

EPJ Web of Conferences, 284, p.14011_1 - 14011_4, 2023/05

JENDL-5, the latest version of the Japanese evaluated nuclear data library, includes several sub-libraries to contribute to various applications. In this paper, we outline the evaluation and validation of the deuteron reaction sub-library developed mainly for the design of accelerator-based neutron sources and the alpha-particle reaction sub-library developed mainly for use in the back-end field. As for the deuteron sub-library, the data for $$^{6,7}$$Li, $$^{9}$$Be, and $$^{12,13}$$C from JENDL/DEU-2020 were partially modified and adopted. The data up to 200 MeV for $$^{27}$$Al, $$^{63,65}$$Cu, and $$^{93}$$Nb, which are important as accelerator structural materials, were newly evaluated based on the calculations with the DEURACS code. As for the alpha-particle sub-library, the data up to 15 MeV for 18 light nuclides from Li to Si isotopes were evaluated based on the calculations with the CCONE code, and then only the neutron production cross sections were replaced with the data of JENDL/AN-2005. Validation on neutron yield by Monte Carlo transport simulations was performed for both sub-libraries. As a result, it was confirmed that the simulations based on the sub-libraries showed good agreement with experimental data.

Characterizing SRAM and FF soft error rates with measurement and simulation

Soft error originating from cosmic ray is a serious concern for reliability demanding applications. Device miniaturization and lower voltage operation degrade the immunity of SRAM and flip-flops, and then soft error countermeasures will be demanded in more and more products. This paper characterizes and discusses soft error rates of SRAM and flip-flops in the terrestrial environment with the results of investigation for soft error phenomena by measurements and simulations.

Confinement of alpha particles in a low-aspect-ratio tokamak reactor

Studies on the loss of fusion produced alpha particles enhanced by toroidal field (TF) ripple in a low-aspect-ratio tokamak reactor (VECTOR) have been made by using an orbit-following Monte-Carlo code. The ripple loss is strongly reduced as the aspect ratio becomes low. Consequently, alpha particles are well confined in VECTOR. Thanks to the good confinement of alphas in a low-aspect-ratio system, the number of TF coils can be reduced to about 6, one half of the original VECTOR, by installing cooling systems near the outer edge of plasma and making allowances for about 30% increase in the bore diameter of TF coils.

Studies were made on ripple losses of fusion produced alpha particles in a tokamak reactor with a non-circular plasma cross-section by using an orbit-following Monte-Carlo code. A preliminary estimation of ripple loss of alpha particles in VECTOR, a compact tokamak type fusion reactor, with a negative magnetic shear was also made

It is must deceasse the pool risk for the radio active wastes. So it is necessary to decontaminate the wastes low level $$alpha$$ ($$<$$500$$mu$$Sv/h) during control the secendry wastes. Had been product the decontaminations hood system for scattaring proof. For that, high-pressure ice brasting method tested using the system. The number of the test piece was 12 from MMF. The resultes is as follows; (1)The hood system have good capacity for scattering proof and remort handling. (2)Aa the test condition, the pressure and the flux was used 9kgf/cm$$^{2}$$ and 6m$$^{3}$$/min, feed volume was used 2kg/min. From the results, the number of test piece being low level $$alpha$$ ($$<$$500$$mu$$Sv/H) was 7, containing of ten several mSv/h wastes, from among. The lesves could not decontaminate. (3)The contamination in the hood was decreased from 87mSv/h to 3mSv/h by nomal pressuer icebrasting (the pressure is 4kgf/cm$$^{2}$$, 2m$$^{3}$$/min, the feed volume is 1 kg/min).
